Big Dreams. New job. Challenging relationship. Divorce. Relocation. Retirement. Promotion. Painful past. Growth. New business. Marriage. Having babies. Empty Nesting. Loss. Newfound love.
All of us will experience one or more of the above life events. Change is natural and inevitable. Suddenly our lives don't feel familiar. Navigating day to day may be awkward. We may move through these new circumstances with ease or plot our way forward. A lot depends on our perspective.
A while ago, I recognized I had no work/life balance. The scope of my responsibilities, my colleagues, and the company I had helped grow were all important to me, but I had lost sight of what I wanted and needed. My personal Truth. After introspection and collaborating with a great coach, I returned to my long-held dream of becoming an Equus Life Coach. To turn my dream into a reality, I applied, was accepted to the Equus Coaching Center training program, and became a certified Equus Life Coach.
Now, when I am taking a horse from the pasture into the barn for an Equus Coaching session or launching a Zoom meeting for a virtual Life Coaching session, I am profoundly grateful for this new chapter. The joy and satisfaction I feel as an Equus Life Coach, supporting clients on their journeys, is my dream come true.
Life Coaching is about supporting Clients in achieving a desired change or outcome. Sessions are typically virtual and often unfold in a sort of arc. Client and Coach start by building trust and establishing what the Client wants to accomplish. This is followed by exploring what the outcomes will look like and how they will benefit Client. Finally, Client looks for the best, most authentic way to achieve the desired outcomes.
Clients have the answers they need, but they do not always remember or believe that. Clients may expect that I will tell them what to do, but that is not my job. As Coach, I help clients learn to trust themselves and their own wisdom. Because each person's innate understanding of Self and personal Truth is the key to finding the way forward.
With horses as my Co-facilitators, I offer coaching clients a safe space to access viscerally what is important to them, (re) discover their own wisdom, finding authentic, achievable ways to resolve problems and release perceived limitations. How is this possible?

When I talk about change and life events, I speak from long and deep experience! Born in Detroit, MI, by the time I graduated from college, I had moved seven times, lived in eight countries, and attended nine different schools!
My business career as an HR, Finance and Operations professional has been rewarding, intense, and successful. I have collaborated with gifted people and served as an executive in noteworthy companies. Helping people, as well as companies realize their potential and learn to thrive has been my passion and through line. Starting Cottrell Coaching & Consulting allows me to continue supporting clients as they explore the life they want.
Like so many people, I have experienced trauma, including watching from Union Square as the Twin Towers came down on 9/11. I understand the aftermath of childhood sexual assault and what it takes to make peace with the challenges of the past.
I believe in Possibilities, Hope, Resilience, Healing, Growth, Kindness and Joy. Most of all I believe in my clients. They prove to themselves over and over again that they can have what they want while staying true to themselves.
